Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 5 June 2026
1. Our Commitment
Maritime Exam Prep Pro is committed to making maritime exam preparation accessible to all learners, regardless of disability, learning difference or accessibility need. We believe that every seafarer deserves the same opportunity to prepare effectively for their professional qualifications.
2. Accessibility Features
The platform includes the following built-in accessibility features, all available without additional cost:
- Dyslexia-Friendly Mode: Switches the platform to a high-contrast cream and navy colour scheme using the OpenDyslexic typeface, with increased letter spacing, word spacing and line height to support learners with dyslexia.
- High Contrast Mode: Maximises contrast ratios to support users with low vision or colour sensitivity, meeting WCAG AAA contrast standards.
- Soft Contrast Mode: Reduces brightness and blue light emission — designed for users with light sensitivity or those studying in the evening.
- Colour Blind Friendly Mode: Optimised colour palette for users with deuteranopia or protanopia (red-green colour blindness), using blue and amber instead of red and green for status indicators.
- Warm / Low Blue Light Mode: A warm amber-toned dark theme to reduce melatonin disruption for evening study sessions.
- Adjustable Font Size: Text size can be increased across the platform using the accessibility panel.
- Increased Line and Letter Spacing: Adjustable typographic spacing to improve readability.
- Reduce Motion: Disables animations and transitions for users with vestibular disorders or motion sensitivity.
- Reading Ruler: An on-screen ruler that highlights the current line of text to assist users who experience visual tracking difficulties.
- Large Buttons Mode: Increases the size of interactive buttons and touch targets to meet and exceed the WCAG 44×44px minimum.
- Focus Mode: Hides decorative background elements to reduce visual distraction.
- Paragraph Focus: Gently fades surrounding content so your current paragraph is highlighted.
- Colour + Text Mode: Adds text labels alongside colour-coded status indicators (such as "Correct" and "Incorrect") to support colour-blind users.
These settings are accessible via the Accessibility button visible on the platform interface. Your preferences are saved and applied automatically on return visits.
3. Mobile Accessibility
The platform is fully responsive and designed for use on smartphones and tablets as well as desktop computers. Touch targets meet accessibility guidelines. The platform is compatible with screen readers on iOS (VoiceOver) and Android (TalkBack).
4. Standards We Aim to Meet
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across the platform. Some features are designed to exceed this, meeting Level AAA requirements where practical. We are an independent commercial platform and are not subject to the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018; however, we follow those standards as best practice.
5. Known Limitations
Whilst we work hard to maintain accessibility across the entire platform, there may be areas where full compliance has not yet been achieved, particularly in more complex interactive features such as simulation games and scenario visualisations. We are actively working to improve these areas.
6. Feedback and Contact
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of Maritime Exam Prep Pro. If you experience a barrier, find a feature inaccessible, or have a suggestion for improvement, please contact us at support@maritimeexamprep.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line.
We aim to respond to accessibility queries within 5 working days and to resolve issues within 30 days where reasonably practicable.
7. Formal Complaint
If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility concern, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) for guidance on disability discrimination and access to services.
